Hi, I’m Alyssa!
I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), a nutrition enthusiast, a new Mama, and a DIY lover. I enjoy sharing my diet-free pursuit of a healthy life – physically, mentally, and spiritually – from my cozy corner of the “crooked letter” state.
To me, nutrition = love. I remember reading food labels as early as a 10 year-old girl. However, I started early by thinking food was the enemy. Now, I’ve learned how to cultivate a friendly relationship with food, for myself and for others. My personal nutrition philosophy is shaped by these relationships and through my experience as a professional nutritionist.
This is a place to share my passion for healthy living and breaking free from our diet-obsessed culture. I believe that all food can be enjoyed, that weight shouldn’t define you, and that health is possible. Through my profession, I have realized the connection food has to the body, mind, and spirit. As my friend Pat Ward recently said,
“There’s no better way that you can be in a conversation with people about what’s happening in their home than if you talk about food.”
My goal is to inspire you to find enjoyable ways you can get healthier and feel happier. In a world full of food fears and misinformation, I hope I can help you realize that food is not the enemy.
Through my conversations, I have learned how all of the “rules” and information-overload has made eating healthy complicated. I don’t believe it needs to be. Every day and every meal allows us to make a decision. Whether it’s balancing pizza with a salad or adding fruit to ice cream, it is possible to have your favorite foods. I work daily to help others find ways to make small changes that lead to big results. Through it, I have seen lives transformed.
My pursuit of a fruitful life expands beyond the dinner plate. While I enjoy getting creative in the kitchen, I also love finding other ways to experience new life flavors. My friends will tell you I’ve always enjoyed “making something,” so you will see me making life out of DIY projects, travels, family fun, fitness endeavors, and who knows what else, because a well-balanced life leaves room for interests, hobbies, passions, and new experiences. I’m on a quest for the fruit of this life, both literally and figuratively.
